Kazakhstan aims to become a regional digital hub through the expansion of 5G technology

Kazakh mobile operators will expand 5G coverage in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, and regional centers to complete the introduction of 5G mobile communications by the end of 2025, Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev said at a June 18 government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.

According to the Prime Minister’s press service, 1,144 base stations have been installed across 20 cities in Kazakhstan. Mobile network carriers are projected to invest over 450 billion tenge (approximately US$994.3 million) in the telecommunications industry by the end of 2027.

Madiyev highlighted that internet usage in Kazakhstan now aligns with that of developed countries. Internet traffic has grown by 61.5% compared to 2020, and the number of users has increased by 12.9%.

Based on Ookla’s Speedtest data for April 2024, Kazakhstan ranks 66th globally in average internet speed, achieving 43.6 megabits per second. This places Kazakhstan ahead of Russia, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan in internet speed rankings.(Source:astanatimes)
