Kazakhstan Revises Forest Law to Promote Eco-Tourism and Enhance Climate Resilience

Kazakhstan has updated its forest legislation to support the growth of eco-tourism, improve climate resilience, and strengthen emergency response systems, according to the Forestry and Wildlife Committee under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

The reforms were detailed during a press briefing following the adoption of amendments to laws governing forestry, specially protected natural areas, and the responsibilities of private businesses. These amendments, initiated by Senate deputies, were signed into law by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on June 26.

A key change simplifies the process for developing infrastructure at tourism sites within national parks. Previously, such projects required a lengthy governmental procedure to reclassify protected lands before construction could begin. Under the new law, local authorities can access protected areas for tourism development through standardized agreements without altering the legal status of the land.
