Kazakhstan Launches Alatau Amanaty Project to Boost Mountain Tourism

Kazakhstan’s ruling Amanat Party has initiated a large-scale project aimed at developing mountain tourism through the creation of national tourist trails, the party’s press service reported.

The initiative, titled Alatau Amanaty, was officially launched in Ayusai Gorge within Ile-Alatau State National Nature Park. It envisages the construction of a national trail system stretching over 1,200 kilometers from Charyn Canyon to the Tamgaly Tas archaeological complex. The route passes through 24 key infrastructure sites and 20 settlements, home to more than 270,000 residents.

The project is designed to establish a full ecosystem for adventure tourism, including ethno-villages, glamping and camping sites, visitor centers, rescue stations, and venues for gastronomic and ethnocultural experiences. A particular focus is placed on engaging local rural communities in tourism-related economic activities.

Among the prominent sites along the route are Big Almaty Lake, Kok-Zhailau, Butakov Gorge, Alma-Arasan hot springs, the ancient Talhiz settlement, Oi-Qaragai mountain resort, and the Yesik State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve.

The project launch included a public clean-up event as part of the nationwide Taza Kazakhstan campaign. Alatau Amanaty is scheduled for full completion within the next 18 months.
