Astana-Almaty Train Introduces Onboard Internet

Passengers on the Astana-Almaty train can now enjoy internet access, marking the first service of its kind in Kazakhstan, according to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) on Jan. 24.

Key Features:

  • Technology: Internet powered by Eutelsat-OneWeb low-orbit satellites enables video calls, streaming, and browsing during the 17-hour trip.
  • Expansion: Plans are underway to extend the service to other train routes.

Additional Innovations:

  • Mobile ticket-checking terminals for efficiency.
  • Chest video recorders and video surveillance for enhanced security, with all recordings stored in the cloud.
