Kazakhstan and Mongolia reaffirmed their commitment to deepening strategic cooperation during an official visit by Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu to Ulaanbaatar, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry’s press service reported.
Nurtleu met with Mongolian Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg to review the implementation of key agreements reached during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s state visit to Mongolia in October 2024. The ministers praised the continued development of high-level political dialogue, as well as robust intergovernmental and interparliamentary cooperation.
The two sides reiterated their intention to achieve the $500 million bilateral trade target set by the presidents of both countries. To this end, they outlined concrete steps to boost economic collaboration, particularly in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
Kazakhstan expressed interest in launching a pilot project to purchase 500,000 goats from Mongolia. The initiative aims to promote export-oriented cooperation and deepen processing of meat and livestock products. Minister Nurtleu invited Mongolian businesses to consider expanding partnerships with Kazakh enterprises in these sectors.
The ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments, affirming their countries’ shared positions on key issues. They committed to strengthening collaboration within multilateral organizations, including the United Nations, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Kazakhstan extended its appreciation to Mongolia for co-sponsoring the UN Security Council resolution establishing the UN Regional Center for the Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty.
