Astana's light rail train (LRT) project is nearing completion, with the construction set to finish by summer, as announced by Zhenis Kassymbek during an expanded government meeting on January 28. The first trains are expected to arrive in September, followed by intensive testing.
The LRT will include 18 stations spanning 22.4 kilometers, with 19 units of rolling stock, each capable of carrying 652 passengers. Trains will operate with intervals of 4-5 minutes. A recruitment program for train operators has been launched as well.
The project is part of a broader effort to develop a modern and sustainable transportation ecosystem in the capital.
“More than 1,600 buses operate on city routes daily. Over the past two years, the capital’s public transport fleet has been updated by 45%,” he said.
