Kazakhstan’s Export Credit Agency Receives ESG Rating from Sustainable Fitch

The Export Credit Agency of Kazakhstan (ECA) has been awarded a Level 3 ESG rating by Sustainable Fitch, recognizing its progress in integrating environmental, social, and governance principles, according to a June 4 press release.

In 2023, ECA joined the Net Zero Export Credit Agencies Alliance (NZECA), committing to carbon neutrality by 2050 and interim targets by 2030. The agency now supports Kazakh exporters in adopting climate-resilient practices and low-carbon strategies.

ECA Chairman Askar Chaizhunusov emphasized the agency’s focus on promoting ESG-compliant projects and helping companies decarbonize. Exporters meeting ESG standards can receive insurance tariff discounts as part of the incentive program.

“ECA strives to help build a modern economy based on new technologies and environmentally friendly industries. This will reduce our dependence on raw material exports and generate new jobs,” said Allen Chaizhunusov, chairman of the ECA executive board.

The agency prioritizes non-resource-based exports through credit guarantees and insurance while excluding fossil fuel and coal mining projects. Over 50% of companies in ECA’s insurance portfolio are SMEs, boosting access to finance and fostering sustainable economic growth.
