The Zhambyl Region has taken the lead in establishing wind and solar power facilities, signaling a noteworthy advancement in Kazakhstan's renewable energy sector. The inaugural industrial wind power station was initiated in the Kordai district, specifically on the Muzbel mountain pass, harnessing the significant wind energy resources within the region.
Collectively, the area accommodates 21 renewable energy installations, amassing a total capacity of 451.3 megawatts (MW). This encompasses six hydroelectric stations (24.4 MW), nine wind farms (175.65 MW), and six solar power plants (251.25 MW).
An extensive strategy has been formulated, mapping out future renewable energy growth until 2030. The blueprint aims to expand the number of facilities to 32, projecting a cumulative capacity of 2.4 gigawatts (GW).
The Zhambyl Region is gearing up for the development of the second Total Eren wind power station in the Moiynkum district, which is set to feature a substantial capacity of one gigawatt (GW) and is backed by French investments. The inception of this project was solidified during Kazakh President's visit to France in 2022, emphasizing the collaborative strides being made toward establishing a wind farm within Kazakhstan.
Additionally, a noteworthy collaboration took shape during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's state visit to China, where officials from the Ministry of Energy and the Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund, an investment holding, sealed an agreement. This agreement delineates the blueprint for the construction of a one-gigawatt wind power station in Zhambyl Region in partnership with China Power International Holding and SANY Renewable Energy.
