The visit of the German Federal Chancellor to Kazakhstan is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing regional cooperation

German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit Kazakhstan on September 16-17, where he will meet with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and attend the second Central Asia + Germany meeting.

Germany is a key strategic partner for Kazakhstan in Europe, with both countries enhancing economic cooperation, political relations, and collaboration on environmental and humanitarian issues. Bilateral trade reached $3.9 billion in 2023, a 41% increase from 2022. Kazakhstan’s exports to Germany grew significantly, with major products including oil, coal, and aircraft. Imports from Germany also surged, with pharmaceuticals and automobiles leading. Germany’s investments in Kazakhstan include a $50 billion green hydrogen cluster and a $500 million lithium production plant. Kazakhstan is one of 34 countries eligible for preferential investment guarantees from Germany.
