Kazakhstan and Italy Sign Strategic Deals to Deepen Economic Ties

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met on May 30 to strengthen the Kazakhstan–Italy strategic partnership.

“Italy is Kazakhstan’s third trading partner in the world and the largest partner in Europe. I believe that we must maintain the high dynamics of our cooperation,” Tokayev shared.

Meloni said bilateral cooperation has always been very fruitful, but there is always room for more expanded interaction, ranging from energy to culture, exchange between universities and peoples.

“We see Kazakhstan as a strategic partner of Italy, and this region as a strategically important crossroads. We need dialogue,” she said.

Tokayev highlighted a 24% rise in bilateral trade, reaching $20 billion in 2024, and noted Italy’s $7.6 billion investment over the past two decades.

Meloni praised Tokayev’s pragmatic leadership and emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation amid global challenges.

Following the talks, the sides signed a Joint Statement and multiple agreements covering investment, critical minerals, water resources, energy, and readmission procedures.
