Kazakhstan’s firefighters have localized steppe fires in the Karagandy and Pavlodar Regions on Oct. 8.
Evacuated citizens returned to their homes after nearly three days of displacement.
As reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a steppe fire erupted in the Karaganda Region on October 6 and subsequently spread to the Pavlodar Region. The fire affected approximately 3,000 hectares in Karaganda and 10,000 hectares in the Bayanaul district of Pavlodar.
The efforts to extinguish the blaze were hindered by strong gusty winds, rugged terrain, and limited access routes to the affected areas.
Tragically, the steppe fire resulted in five injuries and one fatality. Civil defense sergeant Khali Khairat, 33, lost his life while performing his duties.
