President Tokayev convenes an informal meeting with the President of Uzbekistan

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held an informal meeting with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on April 5 in Khiva, as reported by Akorda.

President Tokayev underscored the symbolic significance of the meeting in Khiva, renowned as a treasure trove of Islamic civilization and architecture. He expressed contentment with the successful advancement of bilateral cooperation across all spheres.

Tokayev highlighted the ongoing strides in implementing roadmaps, signed agreements, and trade contracts, citing mutual trade between the countries reaching $4.4 billion last year.

Currently, the portfolio boasts 60 joint projects spanning industry, energy, transport and logistics, and agriculture, amounting to over $2.5 billion in investment and generating more than 13,000 jobs. Notably, construction of the International Centre for Industrial Cooperation is progressing well.

Acknowledging the significance of the Kazakh-Uzbek partnership, Tokayev endorsed the adoption of a Strategic Partnership and Alliance program between the countries until 2034.

During the visit, the presidents visited the HIVA GILAMLARI carpet weaving factory, an exemplar of Uzbekistan's light industry enterprises, and attended an exhibition showcasing industrial goods.

Both leaders underscored the importance of establishing export-oriented enterprises in border areas, emphasizing the necessity for joint measures, including reforestation efforts on the Aral Sea bed to ameliorate the environmental conditions in the region.(Source:astanatimes)
