Kazakhstan's uranium exports surged to an all-time high in 2023

In the initial ten months of 2023, Kazakhstan achieved a record in processed uranium exports. The total value of uranium sales overseas soared to an impressive $2.46 billion, marking a substantial 33% increase compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.

The latest data reveals a historic high in uranium exports from Kazakhstan, showcasing the nation's remarkable growth and significance in this market since at least 2015.

China notably drove this surge, experiencing substantial growth in uranium imports from Kazakhstan. Between January and October 2023, uranium shipments to China totaled $922.7 million, a remarkable 2.2-fold increase compared to the same period in 2022. Notably, October alone contributed 28% of the annual volume, reaching $258 million—an astounding ninefold increase from October 2022.

Kazakhstan also saw significant growth in uranium exports to Russia, approaching $1.2 billion over the ten months of 2023, marking a noteworthy 72% year-on-year increase. (Source:astanatimes)

However, this impressive growth in uranium exports to China and Russia offset a decline in another key export direction—Canada. Uranium deliveries to Canada during this period were $168.5 million, indicating a significant 70% decrease compared to the previous year.
