Kazakhstan’s Proved Oil Reserves Reach 30 Billion Barrels

As of January 1, 2024, Kazakhstan’s proved oil reserves have reached 30 billion barrels, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) report published on February 6.

The report highlights the significance of the Caspian Sea region, which holds substantial oil and natural gas reserves, both from offshore deposits and onshore fields. Historically known for oil production, the region has recently expanded its role as a natural gas producer.

In comparison, Azerbaijan has seven billion barrels in proved reserves, Turkmenistan holds 600 million, and Uzbekistan has 594 million barrels. In 2023, these Central Asian nations, including Kazakhstan, together accounted for 3% of global energy production and 1% of global energy consumption, with Kazakhstan contributing nearly half of the region’s energy output.
