Kazakhstan Showcases Its Human Rights Implementation Policy at the UN

Kazakhstan’s policy in the field of human rights was presented at the United Nations (UN) office in Geneva on Oct. 2, reported the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan, in collaboration with the diplomatic missions of the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, organized a special event titled “Human Rights and Right to Development” during the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Yerlan Alimbayev, Kazakhstan’s permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva, provided participants with an overview of the results from four comprehensive packages of political reforms implemented in the country between 2019 and 2021. He also discussed the plans for economic transformation outlined in President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s recent state-of-the-nation address, including the transition to a new economic model that emphasizes further de-monopolization and diversification of the economy.

Alimbayev specifically highlighted the measures taken to support small and medium-sized enterprises, simplify tax codes, and create employment opportunities for over 3.3 million individuals by 2029, including the establishment of 450,000 new jobs—200,000 of which are intended for young people—and initiatives related to the National Fund for Children.

Furthermore, he underscored the essential role of a regional approach in developing a comprehensive strategy for sustainable development, as well as fostering stability and resilience across the region.
