Kazakhstan has seen a significant rise in renewable energy generation

Renewable energy sources provided 6.67% of total generation in Kazakhstan in January-September, according to the Energy Ministry’s document on electricity production by renewable energy sources published on Oct. 18.

Between January and September, Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sources generated 5.78 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, marking an 18% increase compared to the same period last year. Wind power plants contributed the largest share with 3.2 billion kWh, while bioelectric power plants generated the least, at 560,000 kWh. Solar power plants produced 1.6 billion kWh, and small hydroelectric plants generated 944.4 million kWh.

The total installed capacity of Kazakhstan’s renewable energy assets now stands at 2.9 gigawatts (GW), comprising 1.4 GW from wind power, 1.2 GW from solar, 269.785 MW from small hydroelectric, and 1.77 MW from bioelectric power plants.
