Kazakhstan's Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliyev and Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade Laziz Kudratov signed a protocol to broaden mutual cooperation during a meeting held on January 5 in Tashkent, as per the press service of the Kazakh Trade and Integration Ministry.
The discussions between the ministers revolved around the implementation phases of agreements outlined in the roadmaps established after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's visit to Uzbekistan in December 2022. One of these agreements aimed to elevate the trade turnover between both nations to $10 billion.
Key topics included transit policies, border checkpoint infrastructure modernization, regional and cross-border collaboration, and preparations for the fourth Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.(Source:astanatime)
During their visit, the Kazakh delegation inspected Tashkent's technopark, housing over 20 competitive, export-oriented high-tech enterprises, exploring opportunities to expand industrial cooperation and business relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
In May, a trade mission of Kazakh service and commodity providers in Tashkent resulted in export contracts exceeding $44.1 million for the supply of construction materials, confectionery, IT services, and dairy products to Uzbekistan.
The newly established International Center for Industrial Cooperation, situated at the Kazakh-Uzbek state border, is anticipated to boost the export of domestic products to the Uzbek market.
As of the first 11 months of 2023, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $4.1 billion.
