Kazakhstan and Malaysia have signed agreements exceeding $350 million

Kazakh and Malaysian businesses signed agreements and memorandums totaling over $350 million at a May 17 investment roundtable chaired by Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as reported by the Prime Minister’s press service.

Participants agreed to collaborate on attracting investments in Islamic finance and trade development, as well as in the food industry, mining, gold processing, and joint production of transformer and automobile oil.

Bektenov emphasized the goal of surpassing the pre-pandemic trade level of $650 million, noting last year's trade increase from $150 million to $245 million. He announced plans to diversify exports to Malaysia and encouraged Malaysian businesses to explore new opportunities in sectors such as services, manufacturing, finance, education, subsoil use, agriculture, and construction.

Currently, 48 Malaysian-funded companies operate in Kazakhstan, with 17 joint investment projects worth over $410 million.

Ibrahim highlighted Malaysia’s plans to enhance cooperation with Kazakhstan in tourism, education, energy, and the supply of Kazakh halal products.(Source:astanatimes)
