Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Kuantyrov discussed trade and economic cooperation with Japanese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Jun Yamada on Aug. 2 ahead of Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida’s upcoming visit to Astana.
“Astana and Tokyo have established an active political dialogue, achieved a high level of economic cooperation, and continue to strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties. Over 18 years, Japanese companies have invested over $7.8 billion in Kazakhstan’s economy, and we see great potential in expanding cooperation,” Kuantyrov said.(Source:astanatimes)
Yamada highlighted Kazakhstan's strategic partnership with Japan, noting increased interest from Japanese companies in establishing operations there. He mentioned that Japan could support Kazakhstan’s energy projects, transport infrastructure, and logistics digitization. The planned direct flights between the two countries in 2026 are expected to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance business and tourism opportunities.
Additionally, Prime Minister Kishida is scheduled to visit Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia from August 9 to 12. During the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue Summit in Astana, he is anticipated to announce an economic aid package for Central Asia, focusing on establishing a trade route through the Caspian Sea to Europe. This package will include initiatives for decarbonization using Japanese technologies and loans, particularly in natural gas processing, and will feature exchanges of skilled workers to bolster people-to-people ties.
