Kazakhstan aims to increase petrochemical production by 75% in 2024

Kazakhstan plans to increase the production of petrochemical products by 75% by the end of this year, Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said at a May 28 government meeting, reported the ministry’s press service.

Satkaliyev reported that the ministry is boosting the workload of existing enterprises to produce 628,300 tons of petrochemical products by year-end, a 75% increase from last year's 358,700 tons. From January to April, production doubled to 213,100 tons compared to the same period last year.

By 2029, Kazakhstan plans to implement five major projects worth $14.3 billion, aiming to achieve an annual economic growth of 1.5% and create around 20,000 jobs. A new plant with a capacity of 340,000 tons for butadiene and derivatives will begin construction this year, and an investment decision will be made for a 1.2 million-ton polyethylene project.

Between January and April, 5.9 million tons of oil were refined, producing 4.28 million tons of petroleum products. Additionally, Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC produced 79 tons of uranium products, including fuel assemblies for Chinese nuclear power plants, with 76 assemblies shipped in the first quarter.(Source:astanatimes)
