Kazakh Government to Establish Caspian Sea Research Institute

The Kazakh government has approved a resolution to establish the Caspian Sea Research Institute, as proposed by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, according to the ministry’s press service.

The newly established Caspian Sea Research Institute will focus on studying various environmental issues related to the Caspian Sea. These include investigating the decline in water levels, understanding the causes behind mass mortalities of seals and fish, and developing strategies for preserving the Caspian seal population, marine life, and coastal areas. Additionally, the institute aims to promote close collaboration with other Caspian states.

One of the key objectives of the institute is to provide objective and independent information about the Caspian Sea ecosystem. The data collected will serve as a basis for implementing comprehensive measures by state and local authorities to address environmental challenges. Establishing this scientific organization will enable the fulfillment of both international and national obligations aimed at preserving the Caspian Sea.(Source:astanatimes)

Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov expressed his belief that the establishment of the institute, as proposed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, will facilitate a holistic approach to addressing water-related issues and enhance international cooperation in this regard.
