Almaty is currently hosting the Central Asia Climate Change Conference for the year 2024

The Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2024) held in Almaty from May 27 to 29 addressed issues of sustainable water and land management, energy, food security and environmental sustainability amid climate change, reported the World Bank’s press service.

The Central Asia Climate Change Conference 2024, titled "Bridging Climate Goals with Action: Making Ambitions a Reality," convened over 400 participants in Almaty to assess progress, challenges, and gaps in climate commitments, focusing on carbon neutrality, green transition, and security.

Experts from the region discussed collective efforts to reduce climate-related disaster risks and explored avenues for enhanced regional cooperation on climate change adaptation. The conference aims to strengthen resilience in Central Asia, given the region's vulnerability due to factors like its agricultural economy, aging infrastructure, and rapid population growth.

Climate finance was a key topic, with emphasis on adopting and implementing green policies, deploying green financing, and investing in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and natural resource management.

Central Asia's adoption of the Regional Climate Change Adaptation Strategy was highlighted as a progressive step, positioning the region ahead of many others globally.(Source:astanatimes)
