The Coordination Council on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Kazakhstan has recently sanctioned a set of measures for the year 2024 during its seventh session on January 5, according to reports from the Prime Minister’s press service.
During the session chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, adjustments to national indicators were emphasized, particularly focusing on updating metrics related to vaccination rates, instances of domestic violence against women, and greenhouse gas emissions volume, among other areas.
Key figures from government departments, UN representatives, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the European Union convened to deliberate on integrating SDG indicators into Kazakhstan’s strategic plans and official documents, aiming for their implementation and customization throughout the nation.
Smailov emphasized the primary objective of the SDGs, aiming to enhance citizens' quality of life by aligning with global best practices. He highlighted President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's earlier commitment during the SDG Summit in New York, where the attainment of these goals was identified as a "national priority."
“We are always open for cooperation with all member states in pursuing a more equitable and sustainable world,” Smailov said.(source:astanatimes)
