In four months of this year, the volume of manufacturing goods production in Kazakhstan grew 5.2% to 7.1 trillion tenge (US$16 billion), with exports reaching $5.6 billion, Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapayev said at a May 28 government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, reported the Prime Minister’s press service.
Fixed asset investments surged by around 20% to 403.2 billion tenge ($910 million), while the industry itself expanded by 105.2%, adding 4.3 billion tenge ($9.7 million) to Kazakhstan's economy.
In metallurgy, there was a 5.1% rise, with plans for 21 projects worth 464.2 billion tenge ($1 billion) and the creation of over 4,700 jobs. This includes initiatives like a steel pipes plant in Karagandy and upgrading aluminum packaging production in Shymkent.
Machine-building sector saw a 22% increase, particularly in car production, up to over 46,000 units. Railway engineering also surged 2.5 times due to boosted locomotive and wagon output. Household appliances production spiked 3.8 times with the opening of a Xiaomi TV plant in Almaty.
Chemical industry grew by 6%, with 14 projects worth 29 billion tenge (US$65.4 million) in investment, including ammonium sulfate in Mangystau and liquid nitrogen in Atyrau.
However, light industry only saw a 0.3% growth due to declines in textile and leather. Still, Kazakhstan is aiming to implement 12 investment projects worth 23.4 billion tenge (US$52.8 million) this year, generating 720 jobs.
Construction materials production increased by 1.1%, with domestic producers capturing 68% of the market. The growth rate is expected to rebound through domestic product use in national projects like Comfortable School and post-flood restoration.(Source:astanatimes)
