Kazakhstan’s civil aviation sector continues to develop, with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) reporting a flight safety rating of 82 percent, exceeding the global average of 70.8 percent. In 2023, the European Commission lifted all flight restrictions on Kazakh airlines operating in the European Union.
For the first time, ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano will visit Kazakhstan, marking a new phase in bilateral cooperation.
The country’s aviation industry is expanding through fleet modernization and route development. Currently, six airlines operate 56 domestic routes, while international air traffic has expanded to 31 countries and 58 cities with 119 international routes. In 2023, 12 new routes were introduced, including flights to Mumbai, Jeddah, and Prague. In 2024, an additional 16 international destinations will be added, including Rome, Shanghai, and Munich.
To address the increasing demand for aviation professionals, the sector requires 500 to 600 new specialists annually. The Civil Aviation Academy and training centers are working towards obtaining European certifications to reduce reliance on foreign pilots.
