Kazakhstan Supports Türkiye with New School Construction in Earthquake-Hit Region

The Kazakhstan Agency of International Development (KazAID) has reported steady progress on the construction of a new school in Nurdağı, Gaziantep province, Türkiye. The project was launched at the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as part of Kazakhstan’s humanitarian aid following the devastating 2023 earthquakes.

Designed to accommodate 960 students, the facility will include 32 primary classrooms and four preschool classes. More than half of the construction is already complete: the concrete framework has been erected, walls and internal partitions installed, while façade works and engineering systems are now underway, KazAID announced on Sept. 30.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Dec. 19, 2024. The school is scheduled to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2026 and will begin operating immediately, without waiting for the start of the new academic year.

KazAID, the project’s operator, highlighted that the initiative reflects Kazakhstan’s solidarity with the Turkish people and the strong ties between the two nations. The project also underscores KazAID’s expanding role in coordinating international humanitarian and development assistance, strengthening Kazakhstan’s contribution to global solidarity.
