Kazakhstan is set to export its first satellite to Mongolia

Kazakhstan and Mongolia inked a historic investment agreement to create and develop Earth remote sensing satellite system on Oct. 29 in Ulaanbaatar, which marks the first export of a Kazakh satellite, entirely developed by Kazakh engineers.

Kazakh Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry, Zhaslan Madiyev, stated that independent satellite management by both Kazakhstan and Mongolia will enable timely access to data crucial for monitoring natural resources and advancing agricultural development.

“The satellite will be adapted to the needs of Mongolia, which will strengthen the regional satellite infrastructure and highlight the growing potential of Kazakhstan in the field of space technologies,” said Madiyev, reported the ministry’s press service.

On Oct. 28, Kazakh Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev participated in the first Kazakh-Mongolian Business Council meeting during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Mongolia. Madiyev highlighted potential collaborations in digitalization, including building an innovative ecosystem, supporting startup initiatives, and developing digital government (GovTech) and aerospace projects. He emphasized the role of Mongolian startups in Astana Hub programs and the growing presence of Kazakh startups in Mongolia, strengthening bilateral ties.

During his visit, Madiyev toured the e-Mongolia platform, which facilitates government service access for 85% of the population, and discussed cooperation possibilities referencing Kazakhstan's eGov system, which offers online access to over 90% of government services. He also met with leaders from Mongolia's ICT Group, which specializes in AI, blockchain, and language technology, and visited Mongolia's National Information Technology Park (NITP), a hub for startup support and digital skills development aimed at international market access.

Madiyev remarked that Kazakhstan-Mongolia digital cooperation will enhance both countries’ technical skills and the application of new technologies in daily life.

“The Mongolian side showed particular interest in individual solutions of the electronic government of Kazakhstan, since structurally both countries have similar parameters, these solutions may also be in demand in Mongolia. Also, the Mongolian government is now focusing on the digital economy and AI, which may be interesting for our country,” said Madiyev.
