President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called Rwandan President Paul Kagame’s May 28 visit “historic,” marking a new chapter in bilateral relations. Ahead of the Astana International Forum, both leaders emphasized cooperation in IT, artificial intelligence, and trade.
Kagame expressed interest in boosting cooperation across sectors including logistics, agriculture, and digitization. Talks also covered international issues and potential legal framework improvements to support collaboration.
Kazakh Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu met with his Rwandan counterpart earlier to discuss trade, transit links, and tech cooperation through platforms like Astana Hub.
“We have a very positive attitude towards Rwanda. Your economy is on the rise, and the country has achieved impressive economic growth. We need to build up contacts,” Tokayev said.
Bilateral trade totaled \$381,700 in 2024, down 94.3% from 2023, though recovery is underway. Rwanda has shown interest in working with Kazakhstan in start-ups, mining, education, and vaccine supply.
