A Kazakh delegation, headed by Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev, secured an agreement with Vietnam, Morocco, Ethiopia, and Rwanda to boost weekly flight frequencies from 14 to 73, representing an increase of over five times, as reported by the Kazakh Transport Ministry's press service.
The agreements were finalized during the 16th International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Air Services Negotiation (ICAN2024) Event, held from October 21-25 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Chaired by ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano, the event attracted over 700 participants from more than 70 countries and facilitated approximately 800 bilateral negotiations.
As a result of the talks, Kazakhstan established open skies agreements with Singapore, Vietnam, Morocco, Ethiopia, and Georgia, granting carriers the fifth degree of freedom of the air. Additionally, Kazakhstan obtained rights for flights to the UK and agreed to enhance air connectivity from Kazakhstan and Russia to Baikonur, promoting tourism to the renowned cosmodrome.
In conjunction with these developments, Air Astana, Kazakhstan's flagship carrier, has launched new international routes and increased flight frequencies since the start of the autumn-winter period. Recent additions include flights from Astana to Phuket and Abu Dhabi, from Almaty to Phu Quoc and Medina, and from Atyrau to Dubai. Starting December 12, Air Astana will also introduce a new route from Almaty to Abu Dhabi, while increasing flights from Astana to Seoul to three per week and boosting frequencies from Almaty and Astana to Dubai to eleven and nine, respectively.
