Kazakhstan has ramped up its oil exports from the Aktau Port

In 2023, the national oil transporter KazTransOil reported exporting 3.376 million tons of Kazakh oil from the port of Aktau. This marked a significant increase of 1.108 million tons compared to the previous year, according to the company's press service.

In 2023, the increase in oil transportation from the port of Aktau is attributed to a significant rise in the shipment of raw materials on the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline, reaching 1.392 million tons compared to 250,000 tons in 2022. This surge, representing a 5.5-fold increase, is primarily driven by the transportation of over one million tons of oil from Kazakhstan's Tengiz field along the BTC route. Additionally, the port of Aktau delivered nearly two million tons of oil to the port of Makhachkala in the same period.

The growth in oil transportation aligns with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's call in 2022 to increase the volume of oil transported along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). Subsequently, an agreement was reached between Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas and Azerbaijan's SOCAR to transport up to 1.5 million tons of oil per year from the Tengiz field via the BTC route.(Source:astanatimes)

Situated on the northeastern shore of the Caspian Sea, the port of Aktau plays a crucial role in long-distance cargo transportation with its three dry cargo and three oil terminals. The BTC pipeline, connecting Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, consists of various facilities, including pump stations and block valves, contributing to the efficient transportation of oil.
