Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic have reached an agreement to provide additional volumes of water to offset shortages caused by drought and reduced inflow, according to the press service of the Kazakh Prime Minister.
The agreement was finalized during a meeting on July 28 between Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev and Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev. The two sides reviewed the operational regime for August of key water systems, including the Naryn cascade, the Talas basin, and the Kirov and Orto-Tokoy reservoirs.
The following day, on July 29, Bozumbayev held talks in Tashkent with Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and senior officials in the water and energy sectors. The parties agreed to resolve delays in water supply distribution within two weeks.
As a result of these agreements, Kazakhstan was able to ensure the full completion of the growing season in the Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, and Turkistan regions.
