Kazakhstan, Georgia Strengthen Trade and Transport Ties

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met on Feb. 5 to discuss expanding trade, transport, and digital cooperation. Kazakhstan plans to introduce 35 domestically-produced goods worth over $66 million to the Georgian market, covering petrochemicals, metallurgy, food, and mechanical engineering.

A key focus was enhancing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), with a goal to boost capacity to 10 million tons annually by 2027. Kazakhstan is also investing $30 million in a multimodal terminal in Poti, set to open in April.

Energy cooperation includes plans to increase Kazakh oil transit via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline to 2.2 million tons per year. Agricultural trade, which grew by 12.3% in 2024 to $71.2 million, is also set for further expansion. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic and cultural ties.

“I had the opportunity to meet with Olzhas Bektenov in the frames of my visit to Astana. I was delighted to discuss issues of mutual interest in our bilateral partnership and matters of regional importance such as the development of the Middle Corridor to ensure safe transit of goods between Europe and Asia. Georgian-Kazakh partnership carries vital importance for the economic growth of our countries as well as the region,” wrote Kobakhidze on his X account after the meeting.
