Kazakhstan and France Strengthen Ties with 24 New Agreements at Business Council Meeting

Kazakhstan and France signed 12 interdepartmental agreements and 12 commercial contracts valued at $2.2 billion at the 13th meeting of the Kazakh-French Business Council on Nov. 4 in Paris, reported the Kazakh Invest National Company’s press service.

Gabidulla Ospankulov, Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, reported that the list of joint initiatives currently encompasses 31 projects valued at $4.4 billion across various sectors, including industry, mechanical engineering, petrochemicals, agriculture, medicine, and pharmaceuticals.

As noted by Kazinform, Ospankulov emphasized the potential for collaboration with French companies in the field of nuclear energy. He highlighted that Orano, a leading French firm, possesses extensive experience and technology in uranium extraction, which Kazakhstan intends to leverage for the development of its uranium mining industry.

Additionally, Électricité de France (EDF), another prominent French company, is recognized for its expertise in managing nuclear power plants. Ospankulov indicated that a decision regarding the formation of a consortium with these companies is likely to be reached following ongoing negotiations.

A roundtable discussion focused on healthcare issues also took place, addressing collaborative projects in preventive and innovative healthcare.

This meeting, which aims to enhance trade and investment relations between the two countries, occurred during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to France.
