Kazakhstan and EU Discuss Cooperation Plans in Brussels

Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Roman Vassilenko held meetings with representatives of key EU institutions in Brussels to discuss deepening Kazakhstan-EU cooperation and strengthening regional partnerships in Central Asia, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported on February 13.

Talks focused on transport and infrastructure, sustainable development, energy partnerships, and supply chain resilience.

Vassilenko met with Luc Devigne, Deputy Managing Director of the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Viviane Loonela, Chief of Staff to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to discuss bilateral cooperation and preparations for upcoming joint events.

Key topics included:

  • The EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting in Ashgabat
  • The first EU-Central Asia Summit in Samarkand
  • The Astana International Forum in 2025

“The timing of these meetings in Brussels is significant given the broad scope of our cooperation, the dynamic nature of our relations with the EU, the evolving foreign policy priorities of the new European Commission, and the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. The substantive and positive nature of the discussions reinforces our confidence in the long-term development of our mutually beneficial partnership,” said Vassilenko.

Both sides emphasized strategic engagement in critical raw materials, green energy, and transport corridors, particularly the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
