Almost 50,000 residents from regions affected by flooding have returned to their homes

During a briefing held at the Central Communications Service (CCS) on May 6, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Askar Sharip, announced that a total of 49,945 Kazakh citizens have returned to their homes in regions affected by flooding.

Efforts to divert and pump water have been undertaken in 8,958 residential buildings and 2,994 courtyard areas across Kazakhstan. In Kulsary town, Atyrau Region, work continues to pump water from the remaining 20 flooded houses, with military personnel from the Ministry of Emergency Situations also conducting disinfection operations.

In Petropavlovsk city and the Kyzylzhar district of North Kazakhstan Region, water has been diverted and pumped out from 184 houses within a 24-hour period.

Construction of a 2.5-kilometer dam is underway in Aktobe Region to manage rising water levels in the Torgai River, utilizing over 30,000 bags and 19,000 inert materials.

Hourly monitoring of water levels is ongoing, especially with forecasts of heavy rain and thunderstorms expected overnight in southern, southeastern, and eastern Kazakhstan. Special attention is being given to the Zhetisu Region, where mountainous and foothill areas may experience slope runoff and river water level rises, potentially leading to spills and flooding.

In northern Kazakhstan, temperatures are expected to drop to six degrees Celsius, while areas including Mangystau, Atyrau, Karagandy, Kyzylorda, Aktobe, and the Ulytau Region face a high risk of wildfires.(Source:astanatimes)
