During a meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Almaty on January 25, Astana Motors Founder Nurlan Smagulov reported that the Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan and Hyundai Trans Almaty plants produced a total of 48,857 passenger cars and 981 units of commercial vehicles last year, as stated by the Akorda press service.

Smagulov emphasized Astana Motors' financial contributions in 2023, noting that the company paid 140 billion tenge (US$310.8 million) in taxes, duties, fees, and other mandatory payments to local and state budgets. The company employs 6,489 individuals, including 1,615 engaged in production activities.

Tokayev was briefed on the progress of constructing Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan, a multi-brand plant for Chery, GWM (Haval), and Changan cars. The facility will have a production capacity of 90,000 units annually, with 40% designated for the domestic market and the remaining 60% for export. Construction is slated for completion in February 2025. Astana Motors aims to transition to 100% completely knocked down small-scale production by 2027.

The President underscored the importance of advancing the manufacturing sector, especially the automotive industry, as a priority in the country's industrial policy.(Source:astanatimes)
