During its third meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, from September 9 to 11, the Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission agreed on a proposal for a Latin-based Common Turkic Alphabet with 34 letters.
According to the Turkic Academy’s press service, each letter in the proposed 34-letter Latin-based Common Turkic Alphabet represents distinct phonetic sounds found in Turkic languages. First introduced in 1991, this project was extensively reviewed and finalized during the meeting, which had been studied by the Commission for two years.
Organized by the International Turkic Academy and the Turkic Language Institute, the meeting marked a historic step in promoting mutual understanding and cooperation among Turkic peoples while preserving their linguistic heritage. Relevant institutions are encouraged to support the effective implementation of this new alphabet. (Source:astanatimes)
