President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has extended congratulations to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the signing of a historic declaration establishing peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The agreement was concluded in Washington, D.C., with the active mediation of U.S. President Donald Trump, the Akorda press service reported on Aug. 10.
In separate telephone conversations with both leaders, Tokayev commended their political will and strategic vision, noting that these qualities were instrumental in reaching the landmark accord. He expressed confidence that the agreement, grounded in the principles of international law and United Nations resolutions, will contribute to lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus and foster broader international cooperation in the region.
During his discussion with President Aliyev, Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to provide a platform for continued negotiations and praised Azerbaijan’s growing global standing under Aliyev’s leadership. Aliyev, in turn, emphasized the historic significance of the declaration after years of protracted negotiations and reiterated his country’s interest in strengthening multifaceted ties with Kazakhstan.
In his call with Prime Minister Pashinyan, Tokayev lauded the Armenian leader’s role in securing the peace agreement, stressing that it opens new opportunities for regional collaboration, economic partnerships, and investment. Preparations are underway for Pashinyan’s official visit to Astana later this year.
Pashinyan expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan’s support and acknowledged the pivotal role of U.S. mediation in the peace process. He welcomed Kazakhstan’s facilitation of dialogue between Yerevan and Baku and confirmed his readiness to sign new cooperation agreements during his forthcoming visit.
