Middle Corridor Facilitates First Japanese Cargo Shipment

Japan has conducted its inaugural trial shipment via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) to Türkiye, Trend reported on Feb. 25.

The cargo, departing from Nagoya, transited through China and Georgia before reaching Türkiye, facilitated by the Danish shipping and logistics company Maersk.

Irakli Danelia, Head of Business Development for the Central Asia and Caucasus Region, underscored the Middle Corridor’s growing significance in diversifying supply chains from China, Japan, and South Korea to Georgia, Azerbaijan, and landlocked Central Asian nations, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

Min Young Kim, Maersk’s Head of Cargo Risk Management, emphasized the corridor’s reliability and efficiency, offering South Korean and Japanese companies an effective alternative for European exports while enhancing supply chain resilience and reducing transit times.

This strategic initiative has received support from Japan and South Korea to strengthen international logistics and reduce dependency on traditional transport routes.

“We believe this route will become a critical component of South Korea’s and Japan’s international trade strategy, and we are excited to support our clients in leveraging this innovative service,” he said.
