Kazakhstan’s Renewable Energy Share Reaches 6.8%

Renewable energy sources (RES) accounted for 6.81% of Kazakhstan’s total electricity generation in the first half of 2025, according to data released by Qazaq Green on July 24, citing the Ministry of Energy.

During this period, renewable energy facilities across the country produced a total of 4.2 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. Wind energy led the sector, generating 2.6 million kWh, which represented more than 60% of the total renewable output.

Solar power plants contributed over one million kWh, followed by small hydroelectric stations with 572 million kWh, and bioenergy facilities with 1.39 million kWh.

As of the end of June, Kazakhstan’s total installed renewable energy capacity reached 3,122.12 megawatts (MW). This capacity includes 1,570.05 MW from wind farms, 1,262.61 MW from solar power installations, 287.685 MW from small hydroelectric plants, and 1.77 MW from bioenergy facilities.
