Kazakhstan has been recognized as a global finalist for the European Training Foundation (ETF) Green Skills Award 2025, highlighting the country’s efforts to link education with the transition to clean energy and green jobs.
The Mangystau Energy College’s renewable energy dual training program was selected as one of five finalists from more than 250 applications submitted by over 50 countries. The initiative, developed in strong partnership with local employers, aims to support Kazakhstan’s energy transition while expanding access to skilled employment, including opportunities for rural communities.
The top prize was awarded to North Macedonia’s Best Business Concept for Green Innovation, with projects from Türkiye and Spain also recognized. Tunisia and Kazakhstan completed the ETF shortlist.
Launched in 2021, the Green Skills Award celebrates initiatives that promote circular and low-carbon economies through education and workforce development. Over five editions, the award has received more than 1,350 applications from over 60 countries.
In a separate 2025 category, the ETF presented the #ForOurPlanet Award for circular-economy education to a student-led project in Malaysia that transforms food waste into compost and animal feed through insect-based bioconversion. Applications for the 2026 Green Skills Award are now open online.
