Kazakhstan's Anti-Corruption Agency Reports Recovery of Nearly $4 Billion Since 2022

Kazakhstan’s Anti-Corruption Agency has ensured the return of property assets and funds worth 1.9 trillion tenge (US$3.9 billion) to the state and quasi-public sector entities since 2022, said Chair Askhat Zhumagali during a Sept. 24 meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

A total of nearly 153.3 billion tenge (approximately US$321.5 million) has been allocated to the education infrastructure support fund for the construction of 80 schools, 50 of which are already operational.

During the meeting, Zhumagali provided a report on the measures being implemented to combat corruption in the country and to address offenses involving high-ranking officials.

Tokayev and Zhumagali also discussed the implementation of Digital Tenge, a digital form of the Kazakh currency, alongside efforts aimed at eradicating corruption within the road construction and agricultural sectors.

Furthermore, Zhumagali elaborated on the implementation of the Comfortable School national project, which seeks to resolve long-standing issues in the education sector, including the shortage of student placements and the prevalence of three-shift schools. The agency has been assessing potential corruption risks that may lead to the inefficient use of funds and delays in the delivery of educational facilities.

The meeting additionally focused on measures to eliminate corruption factors that have resulted in significant thefts from the teachers’ salary fund. This year, the agency has initiated the introduction of digital solutions aimed at automating budget processes, integrating the treasury system with the accounting systems of educational organizations, and implementing biometric verification for signing payment documents.(Source:astanatimes)
