Kazakhstan has exceeded 3,000 installed 5G base stations across the country, according to an April 12 report by Kazinform, citing data from Kazakhtelecom, the nation’s leading telecommunications provider.
The deployment is being carried out ahead of schedule as part of a consortium initiative involving Mobile Telecom-Service, a joint venture operating under the Tele2 and ALTEL brands. Chief Innovation Officer at Kazakhtelecom, Nurlan Meirmanov, emphasized that the first phase of license commitments aims to ensure 5G coverage in all regional centers by 2027.
Meirmanov highlighted a sharp increase in 5G usage, with data traffic rising by up to 40% in certain urban areas during the first quarter of 2025. In major cities such as Almaty and Astana, 5G currently supports between 30% and 50% of total mobile traffic.
He also noted that each mobile operator now benefits from access to 100 MHz of spectrum—five times more than the 20 MHz previously allocated for 4G networks.
In line with ongoing infrastructure development, Kazakhtelecom plans to deploy more than 50 additional 5G base stations in 2025, with over half already operational.
