Kazakhstan has exceeded 3,000 installed 5G base stations across the country, according to a report by Kazinform on April 12, citing Kazakhtelecom, the nation’s largest telecommunications provider.
According to Nurlan Meirmanov, Chief Innovation Officer at Kazakhtelecom, the deployment is part of a consortium project with Mobile Telecom-Service—a joint venture operating under the Tele2 and ALTEL brands—and is progressing ahead of schedule.
The first phase of license commitments is slated for completion by 2027, ensuring 5G coverage in all regional centers.
Meirmanov reported a marked increase in 5G usage, with some cities witnessing up to 40% growth in mobile traffic in the first quarter of 2025. In Almaty and Astana, 5G now handles between 30% and 50% of total mobile traffic.
Each mobile operator currently utilizes a 100 MHz frequency band for 5G, a fivefold increase over the 20 MHz typically allocated for 4G services.
Kazakhtelecom intends to install over 50 additional 5G base stations by the end of 2025, with more than half already in operation.
