Kazakhstan continued to expand its renewable energy sector in 2025, increasing the share of electricity generated from clean sources to 7%, up from 6.43% in 2024, according to the Ministry of Energy.
During the year, nine new renewable energy facilities with a combined installed capacity of 503 megawatts were commissioned. These included five wind power plants totaling 387 megawatts, three solar power plants with a combined capacity of 90 megawatts, and one hydroelectric facility producing 26 megawatts. The projects were implemented across the Karagandy, Ulytau, Aktobe, Zhetisu, Kyzylorda and Mangystau Regions.
Kazakhstan operates 162 renewable energy facilities with a total installed capacity of 3.5 gigawatts. The portfolio includes 67 wind farms, 49 solar power plants, 43 hydroelectric facilities and three biogas power plants.
Renewable energy development is supported through an auction-based mechanism under the 2024–2027 plan, which предусматривает ввод 6.7 gigawatts новых мощностей. By December 2025, nearly 4 gigawatts had already been allocated, reflecting sustained investor interest. Several large-scale projects are being implemented in cooperation with international partners, including TotalEnergies, Masdar, China Power International Holding and China Energy.
Kazakhstan plans to commission more than 8 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2035, underscoring its long-term commitment to energy diversification, system resilience and sustainable development.
