Kazakhstan has reaffirmed its commitment to saving the Aral Sea

Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu reiterated Kazakhstan’s commitment to advancing the priorities of its chairmanship in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) at a Sept. 5 meeting with IFAS Executive Committee Chairman Askhat Orazbay.

Kazakhstan took over the three-year chairmanship of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) from Tajikistan on January 1. According to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, the priorities outlined by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the IFAS Summit in Dushanbe in September 2023 focus on addressing the environmental and socio-economic challenges of the region.

Nurtleu highlighted the importance of IFAS in fostering coordinated regional policies on sustainable water management and promoting environmental and scientific initiatives to improve the conditions in the Aral Sea region. Orazbay shared updates on the fund’s current efforts, including collaborations with international partners to combat environmental degradation and rehabilitate ecologically vulnerable areas.(Source:astanatimes)
