Kazakhstan improved its global cybersecurity ranking by securing a place in the second “advancing” group in the latest UN Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Sept.12.
The ranking assesses the preparedness of 194 countries to handle cyberattacks through 83 parameters encompassing legal, technical, and organizational dimensions, as well as capacity development and international cooperation. The 2024 report introduces a new five-tier system—ranging from Tier 1: Role Modeling to Tier 5: Building—providing a clearer perspective on each country's cybersecurity advancements and their impacts.
Kazakhstan excelled across various cybersecurity parameters, scoring the maximum 20 points in legal and cooperation measures, 19.38 in technical measures, 18.3 in organizational measures, and 16.36 in capacity development, achieving an overall score of 94.04 out of 100 and securing a Tier 2 position, indicating significant progress in cybersecurity development. This marks an improvement from its 2021 score of 93.15.
Tier 2 encompasses countries with a score of at least 85/100, demonstrating a strong commitment to coordinated and government-driven cybersecurity actions across multiple pillars or indicators. Every region globally has shown advancement since the previous report.(Source:astanatimes)
