Kazakhstan Expands Domestic Production of Rare Metals

Kazakhstan has broadened the range of rare metals produced domestically, reinforcing the sector’s contribution to economic diversification and the advancement of high-tech industries. The announcement was made by Minister of Industry and Construction Yersayin Nagaspayev at a government meeting.

According to the minister, the rare metals sector demonstrates substantial growth potential and strong export orientation. Kazakh-produced rare metals are supplied to leading international manufacturers in the aviation and maritime industries, electronics, and electric vehicle production.

Over the past two years, the production portfolio has expanded to include technical selenium and high-purity manganese sulfate monohydrate, both of which are widely utilized in alternative energy technologies and energy storage systems.

Further expansion is planned in 2026. A new gallium production line is expected to be commissioned following the signing of an offtake agreement between Eurasian Resources Group and Mitsubishi Corporation during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to Japan in December last year.

In addition, Kazakhstan plans to launch refined antimony production with an annual capacity of 2,400 tons. The commissioning of these new facilities is expected to further strengthen the country’s position in the mining and metallurgical sector and enhance its role in global supply chains for strategic materials.
