Kazakhstan has secured a spot among the top ten countries worldwide for affordable internet, according to the 2024 MoneySuperMarket Internet Accessibility Index. The country boasts an average cost of just $0.59 per gigabyte (GB) of mobile data, reflecting its significant strides in digital accessibility.
Central Asia as a region demonstrates remarkable affordability, with Israel leading globally at $0.13 per GB, followed by the Kyrgyz Republic ($0.30) and Italy ($0.35). Kazakhstan’s low rates result from robust government investments in digital infrastructure and the concerted efforts of telecom operators to expand networks across urban and rural areas.
In 2023, telecom investment in Kazakhstan surged by 2.5 times compared to the previous year, reaching $500 million. This funding has been pivotal in constructing base stations and improving connectivity, particularly in remote regions. The ongoing Digital Kazakhstan program, initiated in 2018, has played a crucial role in bridging the digital divide by bringing internet services to even sparsely populated areas.
The impact of widespread, affordable internet access is profound. It has enhanced the quality of life for millions, enabling greater adoption of online banking, e-commerce, and government services. These advancements not only simplify daily life but also contribute to Kazakhstan’s economic growth, fostering a more connected and modern society.
Kazakhstan’s achievement underscores the nation’s commitment to digital inclusion, setting a benchmark for other countries aiming to ensure equitable access to the internet.
