Kazakhstan to Connect 99% of Rural Areas to Internet by 2027

Kazakhstan aims to provide 99% of rural settlements with high-speed internet by the end of 2027, according to an agreement signed between the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry and Kazakhtelecom.

The project will connect over 3,000 villages, with fiber-optic lines covering 88% of them and satellite communication serving the remaining 12%. Thanks to accelerated efforts, fiber-optic installation is now scheduled for completion by 2026, a year ahead of plan.

Key institutions—schools, hospitals, government offices, and border checkpoints—will be among the first to benefit from improved connectivity. The initiative, totaling over 239 billion tenge (US$470 million) in non-budgetary investments, also includes enhancing cellular base station infrastructure to improve mobile internet quality in rural areas.

Minister Zhaslan Madiyev emphasized that this digital expansion will promote equal regional development and fully integrate rural areas into Kazakhstan’s digital ecosystem.
